To celebrate Arbor Day, the Arizona Capitol Museum (AZCM) will display submissions to the Department of Forestry and Fire Management K-12 poster contest. This year’s theme, “My Favorite Tree and Me” and is intended to highlight special trees or urban forests and increase the understanding of the relationship we each have with trees and the extraordinary places where we play, live and grow.
Poster submissions will be on display at the Capitol Museum on display April 11th through National Arbor Day on April 28th.
On Tuesday, April 18th the Museum will host a special awards ceremony to be held in the Historic Senate chambers from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tree City USA communities, Tree Campus USA designees, and Tree Line USA utilities will be honored along with winners of the Arizona Urban Forestry Awards. The afternoon will end with a tree planting on the Capitol Museum grounds.
Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. This event is sponsored by the Department of Forestry and Fire Management, Arizona Public Service, Trees Matter, Arizona Nursery Association, Society of American Foresters – Palo Verde Chapter, and the Arizona Community Tree Council.
