Hoover Dam

The Boulder Canyon Dam, later officially renamed Hoover Dam, was approved for construction in 1928. Construction on the dam began in 1931, and in 1935, the dam was dedicated. When it was completed, the dam held back the waters of the Colorado River, creating Lake Mead.
