There is a professional collection on librarianship at the University of Arizona. Mesa Community College and Northland Pioneer College offer courses for library paraprofessionals and library technicians. These institutions have some professional and paraprofessional collections. Arizona State University has a large museum studies collection and the Phoenix Public Library has a large grant/foundation center. The Agency's intention is to fill-in the gaps left by these collections and have available to the community material that circulates.
- Levels of Collecting Intensity by Subject
We have broken the Professional Collection down into subject areas with a rating system for acquisition/collection levels and goals. There are three assessment tiers (from broad to specific):
Level 1 - Basic
This level of collection includes a wide range of basic texts and reference materials at the introductory level for people just beginning their studies.Level 2 - Moderate
This level includes a core collection of materials and more advanced works from significant and secondary writers.Level 3 - Comprehensive
This level of collection aims is to acquire all significant works in specific areas, which include historic materials, current literature, and future trends. The subject areas and levels of collection can be used as a guide to the contents of the collection. The collection will build through the years and the designation "comprehensive" denotes a goal that may take several years to achieve due to yearly funding allowances.
