A broad range of records management training is provided at no charge by RMD. The training is scheduled on a regular basis or will be provided at any state or local government office for groups of 10 or more attendees. Electronic Records Management for State and Local Governments
Electronic records are creating new challenges for custodians of public records. Aimed at all computer users this session discusses things to watch out for when storing records solely on electronic media and things that you can do to ensure that your records will be protected. There is also a discussion of e-mail, how it fits into the public records laws, and how it should be managed.

Introduction to Managing Public Records
This brief session is recommended as a prerequisite for the other offered seminars. It covers the statutory definition of records and records management, and the reasoning behind a records management program. The requirements of the Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) are covered. The role of the Arizona State Archives is also discussed as well as records confidentiality and the commercial use of public records. Classes at the Records Management Center include a tour of the facilities.

Records Retention and Disposition
This seminar is targeted at those people responsible for the maintenance of public records in their agency/office. It covers the creation, interpretation, modification and use of records retention and disposition schedules. Record series, retention periods, historical records, and record series “cutoffs” are explained. Also covered are procedures for destroying records.

Transferring and Storing Records at the Records Management Center
This free workshop is for any agency storing records at the Records Management Center. This short workshop is for State agency staff who are responsible for transferring records to RMC. With the statutory mandate to operate the Records Management Center on a fee for service basis, most customers are seeking to save costs and maximize the service they receive. Detailed and personalized instructions on using the bar code labels, packing boxes and completing the requisite forms is included.
