Current Needs & Growth Projects of Collections
ASLAPR staff has identified the following as updated, current requirements:
State Archives
- 70,000 cubic feet - current estimate for holdings In Arizona that could be housed,
regardless of their current custody and location.
- 140,000 cubic feet - estimated approximate storage capacity request that recognizes
Arizona is a growth state.
Note: this would place Arizona among the largest state archives storage capacities in the U.S.,
including large population states.
Records Management Division
- 40,000 cubic feet - estimated pre-archival records from various state agencies that
have long-term environmental storage requirements. These records have potential archival
value although they remain in the legal custody of the originating agency until it is
appropriate to transfer that custody to the State Archives.
Capitol Museum
- 10,000 square feet - estimated storage for collections to meet American Museum Association standards.
Law and Research Library
- 20,000 linear feet - estimated need for storage of archival copies of State of Arizona documents
(publications), and other rare and fragile books and documents. This area will contain identical shelving
and environmental specifications as the State Archives storage area.
Photographic Negatives and Acetate Microfilm
- Photographic negatives, currently in four freezers, and 1,600 microfilm boxes (13x17x5") - acetate
microfilm, all requiring special environmental storage
