Up from the Ashes:
Phoenix Goes to Mars

The Arizona Capitol Museum, in collaboration with The University of Arizona, opened its newest exhibit Up from the Ashes:  Phoenix Goes to Mars during Arizona's Statehood Day observance on February 14th.  This exhibit highlights The University of Arizona's Phoenix Mars Mission, from project development, launch, touchdown and the resulting research.  The display will be updated as data are analyzed and new information is made available from mission control in Tucson.

Launched in August 2007, the Phoenix Mars Mission is the first public university led mission to the Red Planet and the first in NASA's Mars Scout Program.  The mission is designed to study the history of water ice and search for complex organisms in the ice-rich soil of Mars.  Come watch the mission countdown clock at the exhibit as we await the lander's scheduled touch down on the Martian northern polar region on May 25, 2008.

Graphics, including HiRISE images, have been provided by the UA's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory; artifacts are on loan from the UA's Phoenix Mars Mission.
