Job Title:

Library Assistant

Location: Scottsdale, AZ
This is a paraprofessional position
Compensation: $7/hr - $11/hr DOE
Job Description: Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Library Assistant performs clerical duties facilitating the daily operation of the William Wesley Peters Library and the Taliesin Architects Archives. In addition, the Library Assistant administers the Library portion of the Volunteers and Apprentice Work Study programs.

DUTIES include:

I. Technical Services: - cataloging assistance: does bibliographic searching and labels books; does data entry. - acquisitions assistance: processes orders and tracks them, including follow-up with vendors; processes gift books. - serials processing: processes orders; checks in periodicals. II. Public Services: - circulation: handles check out and check in of all media. - reference: provides general reference service both in person and by telephone; assists patrons in use of on-line catalog; provides Internet searches. - library orientation: provides computer instruction and other introductions to library materials for new users.

III. Supervision: - Work Study Apprentices: instructs and trains; assigns and oversees tasks; monitors; sets up schedules. - Library Volunteers: instructs and trains; assigns and oversees tasks; manages scheduling. IV. General: - opens library daily. - shelves books and periodicals. - does filing and photocopying. - maintains the library in the absence of the Library Director.

 
Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: - knowledge of architectural history and/or profession preferred. - bachelors degree, preferable in related area. - experience working in a library. - ability to function independently and to exercise initiative. - ability to follow directions and perform with a high degree of accuracy. - accuracy with figures. - ability to lift heavy books and periodicals, and shift materials on the shelves.

 
Other: The William Wesley Peters Library is closed evenings and weekends.
