State of Arizona Executive Orders

Executive Orders are issued by the Governor of Arizona to establish boards or commissions or to authorize the performance of other functions that are appropriate to the executive authority of the Governor.   The Law and Research Library at the Capitol in Phoenix, AZ has copies of the Executive Orders of Arizona's Governors from 1965 to the present.   This numeric listing of the Executive Orders issued since April 22, 1965 (E.O. 65-1) contains an abstract of each Executive Order as well as a link to the full text of each Executive Order.

The listing was compiled to assist researchers who are trying to identify documents associated with a particular Arizona Governor or who are researching a particular Executive Order.   This listing is INFORMATIONAL ONLY and is NOT provided as definitive legal authority.   The Call Number for the Executive Order series is GV 1.3 :E 93/number.

Explanation of the fields in the listings:

The listing is broken into sections by the issuing Governor and includes the following fields:

• The number, if any, assigned to the Executive Order by the Governor’s Office followed by any additional edition or document type designations necessary to make an Executive Order uniquely identifiable and retrievable
• A title, if any, which was found on the Executive Order
• Additional information noted in the Executive Order which might be helpful to researchers, e.g., the expiration date, was included in brackets
• The date the Executive Order was signed by the Governor
• Notations of later Executive Orders which were noted as amending or superseding a specific Executive Order
• Notations of gaps in the Executive Order series
• A link to the full text of the Executive Order

This listing is updated periodically.  New Executive Orders are being issued as the Governor deems necessary which could amend or supersede any of the Executive Orders in the listing.  The full text of Executive Orders issued from November 25, 1981 (E.O. 81-7) through November 10, 1986 (E.O. 86-12) can also be found in the Arizona Administrative Digest, which was published by the Arizona Secretary of State.  The full text of Executive Orders issued from November 20, 1986 (E.O. 86-13) on can be found in the printed issues of Arizona Administrative Register, which is published by the Arizona Secretary of State.   Executive Orders from April 9, 1999 on can be found on the Arizona Administrative Register Web site.   Governor Napolitano's Executive Orders are also posted on the Governor's Web site.
