Overview of the Genealogy Collection
The Genealogy Collection consists of materials from all 50 states of
the United States as well as from some foreign countries, family histories,
general indexes, journals, ship passenger lists, atlases and biographical
encyclopedias. The Collection is classified using the Dewey
Decimal Classification System. You may use Library and Archives' online
catalog to search for titles that are housed in the Genealogy Collection
or to locate maps, federal publications and other
resources related to a topic. For more information, please

Frequently Used Resources
- Books and indexes to immigration and naturalization records; the many
resources used by P. William Filby in his publication Passenger
and Immigration List Index
- Published material for all the states, e.g., vital records, court
records, wills and probates, and county histories
- Arizona federal census enumeration rolls (on microfilm), 1860-1930

- Online census indexes and digitized censuses for other states
- Genealogical periodicals for various states and Canada
- Complete runs of the scholarly genealogical periodicals: New
England Historical and Genealogical Register and The New York
Genealogical and Biographical Record (beginning in 1847 and 1870
respectively)
- The War of the Rebellion: A Compilation of the Official
Records of the Union and Confederate Armies (Civil War) and various
indexes to pension records for the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Indian
Wars, and other military records
- Massachusetts town vital records
- Pennsylvania Archives

Genealogy Resources in Other Collections
The Professional
Collection contains current genealogical materials which can be circulated
or borrowed through interlibrary loan.
Arizona and Southwestern genealogical materials can be found in History
and Archives' Arizona Collection. The State Archives also holds many original documents for Arizona, such as: court, marriage, school and voting records, as well as census materials.
The State Library of Arizona holds the Regional Federal Depository Library materials for Arizona. These
federal publications include
legal, historical and biographical materials which can be useful to genealogists. The Map Collection, Newspaper
Collection and Arizona State Agency Publications
are also of interest to those with Arizona roots.
