Arizona State Library
Summer Library Institute

The Library Development Division of Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records coordinates an annual Library Institute to provide professional development training for public library staff who do not have a Master’s degree in Library Science and who work in predominantly rural areas of the state. This Institute provides participants with training on a variety of topics related to their work and that increases their job skills and knowledge.

Five days spent on the campus of the Northern Arizona University provides learning experiences from highly regarded library professionals, including faculty from Arizona colleges, experienced trainers, State Library staff, and fellow participants.

June 4-8, 2012
Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff

Starting 2011, Library Institute will contain coursework addressing all five of the Library Practitioner Core Competencies.* These Competencies comprise those knowledge and skill sets required for competent performance as a library director or a manager of a small, usually rural, public library. Although participants cannot complete all of the contact hours required for Library Practitioner Certification by attending the Institute alone, it offers a good head start toward certification, plus excellent instruction and a wonderful opportunity to interact with other library staff.

To find out more about the Library Institute, please contact the Continuing Education Coordinator here.

Application

*Developed by the Western Council of State Libraries as part of the "Continuum of Library Education" funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
