Consultants

Consultant -- Janet BallJanet Ball

Known as Janet to family and old friends from first grade, Jaime comes to the Arizona State Library as the Continuing Education Coordinator at Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records. She manages a statewide training program, bringing nationally known speakers, teleconferences, Library Institutes, and many other events to Arizona libraries. She received her Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Arizona in 1995, graduating with the last class to take cataloging instead of organization of information, and reference instead of information resources.

In a previous life, Jaime developed projects for a museum exhibit designer, helped produce museum symposia, and designed the introductory library course for first-year college students. In libraries, Jaime worked as a page, Circulation clerk, Interlibrary Loan clerk, Library Assistant (mainly in charge of reference, computer classes, and the online system), Assistant Library Director, Library Manager and Library Director. She received New Planning for Results training from the Library Development Division in 2002. She has also published a regional magazine in northeastern Arizona, written for encyclopedias, and waited tables for years. Email: jball@lib.az.us


Consultant -- Holly HenleyHolly Henley

Holly Henley joined the Arizona State Library’s Library Development Division in 2004 after working in the Kyrene School District in Tempe as a Teacher-Librarian and Assistant Principal. Prior to that, she was a full-time mom to her two sons and volunteered at their schools, serving on the Kyrene Community Foundation Board, as president of the Parent-Teacher Organization, and as an Art Masterpiece guide.  She had started her career as a Children’s Librarian in a public library in her home state of Virginia and then became manager of the bookmobile. Holly earned her B.A. in French and Secondary Education from the University of Richmond and her M.L.S. from the University of Maryland in College Park.

As an LDD consultant, Holly serves as the liaison for teacher-librarians and youth services librarians in public libraries.  In December 2005, she began managing the Carnegie Center and became Director of the Arizona State Library Center for the Book. The Carnegie Center hosts training events for the State Library and offers meeting facilities to state agencies and non-profit organizations. Building a New Generation of Readers, the Arizona Reading Program, ONEBOOKAZ, and Letters About Literature are several of the Arizona Center for the Book's programs that promote reading and literacy.

Consultant -- Malavika MuralidharanMalavika Muralidharan

Mala is responsible for helping public and tribal libraries to apply for e-rate funding. She works with them on their Tech Plans and is actively testing Tech Atlas as a planning tool. Mala is an active advocate and editor of WebJunction – a networking portal for Libraries and Museums in Arizona. Mala also assists in providing access to a number of databases state-wide and is the project manager for the Gates Grant and an evaluator for the LSTA Tech grants.  As a member of the Steering committee for the Gates funded  MaintainIT  Project she has assisted in bringing out  cookbooks to help maintain healthy computers. Past projects she has managed at LDD include the ONEBOOKAZ and Planning for Results.

Mala comes to the Arizona State Library after 23 years of holding management positions in academic and public libraries in India. Before coming to the USA she was the Regional Librarian, West India, heading the world’s largest and busiest British Council Library in Bombay.  Mala was also one of  three consultants to the British Government's Aid project for libraries in India, assisting in the development and upgrading several Engineering Colleges. MaryMary Villegas

Mary Villegas has a Bachelor of Science in Finance (Arizona State University), Juris Doctor (Arizona State University) and is currently pursuing her Masters in Library Science degree at the University of Arizona. She has been involved in the telecommunications industry for over 9 years and has worked for several local telecommunications companies including one owned and operated by a Tribal community in eastern Arizona. She has also worked with the Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs as a Business development representative. She has also taught Indian Law at a local community college. Email: mvillegas@lib.az.us


Cultural Institutions Coordinator

Consultant -- Richard ProutyRichard Prouty

Richard Prouty is the manager of the Cultural Inventory Project and outreach coordinator and trainer for the Arizona Memory Project.  Richard is a graduate of the School of Information Resources and Library Sciences at the University of Arizona.  Richard hosts monthly meetings of the Phoenix Friends of SIRLS student group and helps to organize student internships and serves on the board of CAMA, the Central Arizona Museum Association.  Prior to joining the Arizona State Library, he held various management positions in information technology.  Email: rprouty@lib.az.us


Grants Administrator

Consultant -- Laura StoneLaura Stone

Laura Stone is the Grants Administrator at the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, where she coordinates Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grants; the State Grants-in-Aid program; and public library statistics.  She has previously worked as the program director at the Arizona Humanities Council, and at the Casa Grande Valley Historical Society, leaving that small museum as the executive director.  Laura is a graduate of the University of Arizona (BA in journalism) and Arizona State University (MA in history); she is working on a library science degree at the University of Arizona

Special Events Coordinator

Sarah WeberSarah Weber

Sarah Weber is the Special Events Coordinator at the Carnegie Center.  She helps plan events and programming for ONEBOOKAZ, the Arizona Book Festival, Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame, the Arizona Reading Program, Convocation, and Statehood Day.

Sarah earned her BA in history at the University of Utah and her MA in public history and museum studies from Arizona State University, where she received two awards for her master’s thesis, “Casualty of the Culture War: The Equal Rights Coalition of Utah.” Before coming to the ASLAPR, she was the program coordinator at the Arizona Humanities Council. She has also had the opportunity to work in several museums in the Phoenix area, such as Pueblo Grande Museum, the Heard Museum, ASU’s Anthropology Museum, and the Deer Valley Rock Art Center. Sarah is an avid movie goer and plays violin in the Tempe Symphony Orchestra. Email: sweber@lib.az.us


Administrative Support Staff

Consultant -- Betsy HowardBetsy Howard

Betsy is a native Arizonian. She attended Arcadia High School and holds an Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Medical Records Technology from Phoenix College. Her career with state government began in February 1980. While working in the Law and Research Library Division of the State Library, Betsy has worked with the state and federal government documents collections, the map collection, genealogy collection, newspaper collection and interlibrary loan. In April 1993, Betsy transferred to the Library Development Division where her duties as library development assistant includes maintaining the Arizona Library Directory, working on the public library statistics, providing support for the County Librarians’ meetings, supporting the Library Institute in any way, and other duties as assigned.

Consultant -- Gloria RojelGloria Rojel

Gloria Rojel is one of our support staff members who is responsible for the facility use of the Carnegie Center and who cheerfully answers the phone and greets visitors.

Gloria is a native Arizonian, hailing from northern Arizona. She graduated from high school in Winslow and moved down to Phoenix after her marriage. She has earned several college credits while she has worked. She was a bilingual assistant at Phoenix area school before coming to the Arizona State Library in 1994.

Gloria is ever smiling and always willing to give the consultants a hand in all their endeavors. Thanks for being there, Gloria!

Consultant -- Carol TapiaCarol Tapia

In 2002, GladysAnn Wells presented a Turtle Award for staff excellence to Carol Tapia. She has worked in a variety of places in the agency and always distinguished herself as someone who can get things done.
