Introduction

The annual publication of Arizona Public Library Statistics presents a summary of basic statistical information about public libraries in Arizona. Public library directors submit the data to the state library.

Most of the statistics collected for this publication are based upon the definitions created for the Federal State Cooperative System for Public Library Data by the U. S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics. By using the nationally agreed upon definitions, Arizona’s data can be accurately compared to that of the other 49 states. The data for the other states is available on the national website: http://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/getpubcats.asp?sid=041#052
http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/libraries/liblocator/

We hope this publication will be useful to administrators and to library boards in planning, budgeting and public relations activities.
