This webinar is specifically geared to grades K-5 teachers and librarians. Utilizing EBSCO’s Searchasauras and Kids Search interfaces, participants will learn how to access grade-appropriate resources and teach students various search strategies that make the most of their research. We will also discuss the advantages of using databases for searching instead of free Internet search engines. Attendees will also tour the EBSCO Support site, which provides additional training tools as well as materials to help promote these valuable online resources. In this session, teachers and librarians will learn how to navigate and successfully search databases designed for grades 6-12. We will conduct searches in both Student Research Center and EBSCOhost interfaces and discuss lexile reading levels and a variety of research methods. Your students are sure to become super researchers in no time at all! Attendees will also tour the EBSCO Support site, which provides additional training tools as well as materials to help promote these valuable online resources.
Databases covered: MAS Ultra, History Reference Center, Science Reference Center, Book Collection: Non-Fiction, Newspaper Source Plus, Biography Reference Center, Points of View and Consumer Health Complete

Brain Boxes and Infant Brain Development Bilingual Training Wednesday, September 22, 2010 |
Rachel Lam, Program Coordinator for Curriculum Development at New Directions Institute for Infant Brain Development, will present early brain development in the context of early literacy, based on the Brain Box learning system. Ms. Lam will then model Brain Time programming and give participants time to share ideas about circulating Brain Boxes and using them with families of children 0-5 in the library. | The objectives of the Town Hall Meetings include establishing a unified understanding of basic preservation principles, including the major causes of deterioration in all media types; provide pragmatic, strategic approaches for minimizing these problems and improving collection-wide preservation. Examples of materials and supplies utilized in preservation efforts will also be displayed at the meetings. Attendees will be asked to fill out a Post-Workshop Evaluation form to quantify participant satisfaction. The form will provide valuable information for future grant proposals aimed at seeking substantial funding for collecting institutions across Arizona.
Everyone is welcome to attend this event, but only one representative from each institution needs to fill out the Substitute W-9 form that you will be redirected to once registration is complete.
