The Carnegie Center is a symbol of continuity. In an era when so many places look alike, this unique building demonstrates the resilience and viability of its neighborhood.
Today, the Carnegie Center is being returned to its role as a multi-service center that will serve workers and residents in downtown Phoenix and the eastern Capitol Mall.
The Arizona
Center for the Book is one of 50 state affiliates
for the Center of the Book in the Library of Congress. The
goal of state centers is to carry the Center for the Book’s
mission of “stimulating public interest in
books, reading, literacy and libraries to the state and local level.”

Programs include:
- ONEBOOKAZ – a state-wide literacy project
- Arizona Book Festival – celebrating books,
reading and authors every April
The
Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame program pays
tribute posthumously, and honors in perpetuity, the remarkable
women whose contributions to the arts, athletics, business,
education, government, the humanities, philanthropy and science,
have played a significant role in the history of Arizona
and provide a significant contribution to the historical
record of the State of Arizona.
Bonus Years @ the Carnegie is a program aimed at addressing the changing nature of retirement and aging. The Baby Boomer generation will reach retirement age healthier and more active than ever before. With increase longevity many Boomers will explore a variety of options for this new third phase of life.
