Vol. 38, No. 1
March 2008
LAST BUT NOT LEAST
A Personal Message from Leslie Rachels,
the President of the Friends of Talking Books:
Friends of Talking Books (FOTB) have been busy, as usual, and I wanted to take a few minutes to update you all on how and what we are doing.
The 2008 Large Print Calendar sponsored by FOTB has been well received and we want to thank each of you who have sent a “thank you” contribution. The costs associated with the calendar were covered and the additional funds received will go towards replacing the old recording booths at the library.
Speaking of the recording studios, we were honored to receive a very substantial bequest from the Romano family a few years ago. The FOTB voted to name the new recording studio at the library to honor the Romanos memory and generosity.
Once the new recording booths are in place, we will be offering naming opportunities – please look for more information to follow. The FOTB welcomed a new member at our January meeting, Mary Lou Goldstein. She is the manager of Library Services for Scottsdale Healthcare and is proud to say, “This library provides the entire State of Arizona a needed service to those with low or no vision and I’m happy to participate in letting the healthcare industry know about the Arizona State Braille & Talking Book Library!”
SAVE THE DATE -- "Whine & Cheese 2008" silent auction and fundraiser will be held September 26, 2008 at the University Club. The FOTB are already busy gathering auction items for the event. Gift certificates, wine, art, anything autographed, tickets, and jewelry to name a few things. Even small donations are appreciated. We can combine them with other gifts.
Additionally, FOTB would like to auction a trip this year and we would appreciate your help with airline connections, condos, hotel contacts, etc.
Other ways you can help the FOTB reach their goals –
- Tax Rebate – what a great feeling to know you are helping so many visually impaired Arizonians by sharing your rebate with FOTB.
Donations are also accepted in memory of a loved one or to honor an individual such as on the occasion of their birthday. When doing this be sure to include the name and address of the person or family member so an acknowledgement can also be sent to them.
Donations are tax deductible and checks should be made payable to Arizona Braille and Talking Book Library, 1030 N. 32nd Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008.
Consider serving on our Board. We meet four times a year and are a friendly, fun and hard working group of caring professionals. Feel free to contact the Director of the AZ State Braille & Talking Book Library, Linda Montgomery at 602-926-3350 or lmontgomery@lib.az.us.
On behalf of the Friends of Talking Books, thank you for your past, present and future support of our worthy cause.
Leslie Rachels, President
