FAREWELLS AND WELCOMES

In July we said goodbye to two long-time staff members, Don Farnsworth and Amelia Rosell.  Don joined the library staff in 1972 and was our technician in the Special Services area, duplicating all of the magazines we offer from this location and duplicating the books we record in our studios.  Amelia came on board in 1980 and served as our registrar, processing the new applications, sending packets of information to new patrons, tracking changes to patron accounts and providing back-up on the phones.  Our Spanish-speaking patrons relied on Amelia to be their liaison to the Library.  We wish Don and Amelia well and congratulate them on jobs well done.

Nancy Morris retired from Phoenix Public Library after twenty-six years in order to join us as a Reader Advisor on April 30.  Nancy serves patrons whose last names begin S through Z.  One of Nancy’s duties at Phoenix Public was to select the books for Greater Phoenix Digital Library’s OverDrive (see preceding article) and she continues with that role here, and she also selects the books for the Talking Book Library’s recording program.  Please join us in welcoming Nancy to the staff.

In addition to those changes, Beatrice Sausedo was promoted from magazine coordinator to registrar and Christine Marquez was promoted from lead shipping clerk to magazine coordinator.  Sylvester Baisey joined the shipping room staff where he, along with two others, ensures that your books get out the door every morning and then inspects and rewinds the returning books.  They also flag books for repair, shelve returned books and keep our shelves, and the books they hold, in good order.
