OUR ON-LINE CATALOG

Many of you are already using our online catalog at www.lib.az.us/braille to order your own books or to search for books by certain authors.  Anyone can browse the catalog, but if you want to see your account or order books you will have to call your reader advisor for your user i.d. and password.  You can search by author, title, or subject, put books on your request list or have books sent out by putting a rush on them. Here are a few tips on using the online catalog:

• • Find the list of subject headings used in our catalog by selecting ‘subject’ and then clicking on the word ‘browse’. 
  • If you want to order books by number go to ‘Request by Book Number’.  When you key in each number, leave a space after the prefixes RC or AZC.  Press enter after each number, and, when you’re finished, click on ‘Add to Book Basket’.  When you view the book basket, click on ‘rush’ for any you want shipped right away.   You may rush 3 books every 5 days.
  • When you’ve finished ordering books, click on ‘Proceed to Checkout’.  At that time the screen will show you if there are any problems with your order.  The ‘Exception’ message might tell you that you’ve read that book before or that the book contains elements that you have rejected, such as strong language or violence.  The box immediately to the right of the ‘Exception’ box allows you to either accept or reject that particular book.
  • You can set customized search options that will remain in place each time you use the catalog by going to ‘Search Options’ in the Patron Information menu.  You can exclude from your search results any books you have already read, languages you don’t speak or books written at a different reading level.  For example, adults won’t be shown children’s titles and children won’t be shown adult titles.
  • If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please call your librarian for assistance.  Very new books that you may hear about on radio or television are probably not listed in our catalog yet.
