Your Arizona Friends of Talking Books: “Whine & Cheese” Fundraiser
"It is only in the giving of oneself to others that we truly live." ~ Ethel Percy Andrus, founder of AARP.
In the last “Talking Books News” I mentioned the fundraising efforts of the Arizona Friends of Talking Books (AZFTB) board, and our continued dedication toward raising the money necessary for your new, and much improved, Talking Book Library’s digital recording studio. As you may know, state library funding is not nearly enough and the total cost of the conversion, $60,000, will be handled solely by the AZFTB. Slowly, but surely, we are achieving our goal.
Much of what we’ve raised has come from people like you. In fact, the response from my last newsletter article has been overwhelming. We’ve been amazed by the generosity and kindness shown by the many library patrons giving to this cause. In many instances, the contributions have been beyond expectation and have provided the board with continued motivation. With great sincerity and admiration I want to thank you all for your wonderful donations. We couldn’t do it without you.
As the gifts pour in, it makes me realize how important the Talking Book Library’s service must be to the people who use it, and how imperative it is we raise the $60,000. In that regard, the AZFTB is pleased to announce our first annual “Whine and Cheese” fundraising event to be held at the University Club in Phoenix on September 30th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. With tongue in cheek, we will be “whining” to all attendees about the importance of giving to this worthy cause. Our casual fundraiser will add to our studio conversion funds AND spread awareness about the Braille and Talking Book Library. The evening will include food, drinks, a silent auction and talking book displays. Tickets are $50 per person.
Also, don’t forget the “Arizona Talking Book Friend for Life – Studio Conversion Project” contribution plaque to be displayed at the Library. This plaque will honor individuals and civic or church groups who fall within four tiers of giving: 1) “Manuscript” – ($250+), 2) “Volume” – ($500+), 3) “Tome” – ($1,000+), and 4) “Book” – ($2,000+). Of course, anonymity will be honored by request. There is also a recording studio naming opportunity for those interested in giving an even larger donation toward this great cause. If you haven’t made a contribution already, I ask you to consider a donation toward the studio conversion project, and the Library that’s given so much to the people of Arizona.
If interested in any of these opportunities, or in attending the “Whine and Cheese” fundraiser, feel free to contact the Braille and Talking Book Library at (602) 255-5578, or 1(800) 255-5578. Likewise, general contributions can be sent the Library’s address. Of course, any donation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
Warmest regards,
Dr. David T. Rockwell
President, AZ Friends of Talking Books
