Do It Your Way
Need some changes to your library service? There are different ways to set up your account and each patron has to decide how they want their service to work. If you are happy with the library choosing books for you and you have established all your reading interests with your reader advisor, your account will be designated as “Autoselect”. With ‘Autoselect’, you can also send in requests from time to time that will be randomly selected to go out to you with no particular urgency. If there is a book you are keen to read as soon as possible, let your reader advisor know so that he/she can reserve it for you. A reserve means that the next available copy will be sent to you.
If you routinely send us lists of books you want to read and you would prefer to be sent only those books, then we would designate your account as “Nightly List Only”, and only books on your request list or authors on your author preference list will be sent. You can also reserve books that you want to receive as soon as possible.
If you only want to read a book occasionally instead of always having a book on hand, we can set up your account as “On Demand”, and books would be sent only when you call. You can also opt to receive only magazines and forego books altogether.
The library always starts new patrons with two books at a time. That number can be increased later when the patron finds that they are running out of books faster than we can replace them. There is actually no limit on the number of books a patron can have at one time as long as they are returned within the loan period (one month) or are renewed for an additional month. Just call your reader advisor if you need to renew your books.
The best way to be sure that you don’t run out of books is to return each one as soon as you finish it. Our signal that you need a book is when one is checked back in, and our goal is to have a nice rotation of books going to you, coming back from you, and in your possession. If you would like to change the way you receive books or if you have any problems with your service, please do not hesitate to call us. Happy Reading!
