Ms. Montgomery received a BA from California State University, Stanislaus in 1973 and Teacher Certification in 1974. Began her library career at the Daly City Public Library, California, in children’s services from 1975-1977. Worked at the South Caroliniana Library at the University of South Carolina, 1978-1984, where she also received her Master of Library Science Degree. Joined the staff of the Arizona Braille and Talking Book Library in 1985. Served first as Special Services Librarian, then as Assistant Director, and in 1993 was appointed Director.

Ms. Montgomery has been active in the Arizona Library Association (AzLA), American Library Association (ALA), and the Mountain Plains Library Association (MPLA). Served two years as Chair of the Librarians Serving Special Needs Roundtable/AzLA Executive Board 1993 and 1994. Currently serves as an Ex-Officio member of the Arizona Governor's Council on Blindness and Visual Impairment, Secretary of the board for Sun Sounds Foundation (Sun Sounds of Arizona, a radio reading service for the blind and visually impaired), and was the 2000/2001 Chair of the Western Conference of Librarians Serving Blind and Physically Handicapped Individuals. Received the 2003 Volunteer of the Year award from Sun Sounds.
