Biographical Note
 

Sally Ann Gonzales served as the Democratic Representative for District 10 in Tucson for two terms from 1997 to 2000.  Prior to becoming a legislator, she served on the Pascua Yaqui Tribal Council from 1992-1996 and was the Tribal Secretary for a portion of that time.  Her previous occupations include being the Program Coordinator of Manos a la Vida, a breast cancer self-help intervention study for Hispanic and African-American, at the University of Arizona and a bilingual teacher for the Tucson Unified School District.  In the House of Representatives, Representative Gonzales served on the Appropriations, Government Operations, Public Institutions and Universities, and Banking and Insurance Committees.

 
Scope and Content
 

The collection of Representative Gonzales’s office files covers the years 1996-2000.  The files are divided into three series: correspondence, subject files, and committees.  The bulk of the collection is subject files and covers the years 1997-2000.

 
Series Description
 

Series 1:  CorrespondenceFour folders include a variety of correspondence including constituent letters.  Folder two contains correspondence regarding Representative Gonzales’s chairmanship of the welcoming committee for Nobel Peace Prize Winner Rigoberta Menchu Tum’s visit to Tucson.

Series 2:  Subject Files: Sixty-three folders, the bulk of which contain research files concerning family, health, and Native American issues
Series 3:  Committees: Nineteen folders of standing, joint, interim and study committees
 
Processing Note
 
 

For the most part, original order and creator’s labeling were maintained.  If the papers were loose within the boxes, they were placed in appropriate files or new files were created.  When the label did not correspond to the contents, another label was assigned.
